Sometimes it’s hard to even know where to start when it comes to deciding what look to go for. To help get you started, here is your fellow brides most requested for the big day and the products the makeup artists actually use.
Givenchy Pro Make-up Artist Georgina Holliday highlights the top 3 looks she gets asked most for…
THE CLASSIC BRIDE
Which tends to be very natural focusing on complexion. A subtle wash of colour on the eyes with liner to define and a soft lip and cheek to complete the look.
THE GLOWING BRIDE
Using products that create a dewy/luminous finish, highlighting the key points - cheekbones, bridge of the nose, cupid's bow, inner corner of the eyes, brow bone and radiant skin.
THE GLAM BRIDE
These days it's becoming more and more popular to glam up on your wedding day. This look would normally involve either a statement lip or a smoky eye, sometimes even both!
Clarins Training Manager Laura says that the most requested look we receive for a bride on her wedding day is to look natural.
“It’s all about enhancing your natural beauty and capturing the real you. Choosing the correct tones to complement your skin tone such as a foundation to create the look of ‘your skin but better’, a soft blush on the cheeks, a sweep of colour on the eyes and a little definition created with an eye pencil to finish the look.”
The three Laura Mercier national makeup artists’ James Webster, Chris Howells and Yasmine Ferguson Turgut believe the key to all and every Bridal look is perfecting the skin;
“Our key looks are Beach Bride; pink lips and a pop of blush, Bombshell Bride; strong brow and red lip, Fall In Love Bride; berry lips and coffee eyes, and Daytime Chic Bride; smokey caramel eye and nude lip.”
Richard Hawkins, Guerlain Training Director, shares his top tips for your special day;
"Whatever look you want, on your wedding day you need more foundation than any other day, in order to achieve photo perfect results. Use light reflecting products to bring radiance, but avoid shimmer at all costs - particularly on the nose and forehead, where shimmer can appear on photos as shine.”
“Blush! Blush! Blush! Love it or hate it on other days it is essential to create both a blushing bride effect plus giving shape to the face on photographs. If prone to redness, then opt for a coral tone- but pink generally works for everyone, as nature intended.”
Fred Letailleur, YSL European Makeup Artist shares how to achieve the coveted bridal glow;
“A lot of trends are currently focusing on radiance which makes them particularly ideal for that bridal glow. In terms of radiance, you can either strobe the skin or chrome the skin. Strobing involves a delicate pearl highlight mixed within a light hydrating base and chroming is a highlighting trend that provides even more radiance using a white balm pearly lipstick. Simply apply the texture on the bristles of a flat foundation brush then press it onto the upper cheekbones and brow bones after foundation application and before blush for a fresh uplifting radiant result. Press into the skin in downwards movements over the areas of the skin that gather light such as upper cheekbones, brow bone, the bridge of the nose and let’s not forget the middle of the cupid’s bow to add fullness to the upper lips."
SJ Froom, bareMinerals International Make-up Artist, says no matter what look you choose, your skin is key;
“Skin dehydration tends to show in the form of fine lines especially in photographs. Ensure that your skin is in great condition by using a full skincare regime in the weeks leading up to your wedding, particularly adding in a serum. When it comes to applying your make up, always use a primer on both the face and eye lids. A facial primer will help to absorb any excess oil throughout the day, and give a beautiful smooth canvas for your base to sit on top of. An eye lid primer will prevent your eye make-up from creasing and will provide you with a long lasting eye look.”
Julia Stewart, Shiseido’s Training Manager says it’s all about looking like you on the day;
“Generally brides want to look like the best version of themselves on their wedding day. Our most requested look for brides is a flawless and glowing base, a neutral defined eye, most often using browns, pinks and beige shades and a natural pink on the lips to finish.”
